Make Your Daily Commute Better

News Flash - traffic is getting worse. Believe it or not there is an extensive study done on a regular basis to analyze how bad traffic is. The results were just announced by Texas Transportation Institute for the year 2003. The report details how many hours drivers waste sitting in traffic annually. The effects of traffic congestion are measured in both hours spent sitting and the gas wasted, which is considerable.

Los Angeles wins the prize for the worst traffic and the most wasted time with LA drivers wasting an average of 93 hours a year and spending almost two hours commuting. Right behind LA is San Francisco. Florida cities that ranked are Miami, Orlando, Tampa St Petersburg, Jacksonville, Sarasota, and Cape Coral. The average commuter wasted about 47 hours a year sitting in traffic.

Traffic Will Never Get Better

Most reports on traffic focus on how traffic engineers can reduce congestion and cut commute times. Since traffic has never gotten better we believe that is a waste of time. Instead, we have put together our list of top ideas to make your commute go by faster, be more productive, and more enjoyable.

Making Your Daily Commute Better

The best way to make your commute shorter is to avoid it. Shift your schedule and drive to work at 6:30 am instead of 8:00 am. The traffic in most cities is dramatically lighter during off peak times. Some couples alternate leaving early.

Make Your Commute Entertaining

If you're going to sit in traffic you should try not suffer. Our number one suggestion is to get a satellite radio. Both XM and Sirius have excellent programming with over a hundred stations. Check out the stations for Sirius and XM have dozens of music stations, comedy, news, entertainment, traffic, and weather. An easy way to put satellite radio in your car is with a portable unite. A portable satellite radio can be taken from your house to your car.

Make Your Daily Drive Productive with Books on Tapebooks on tape

So you spend an hour sitting in traffic and feel like it's a huge waste of time. What if you could read a book while you drive? We're not suggesting you actually read. That would be dangerous. Books on tape will make it easy to read your favorite books while you drive. Thousands of books are available on CD or cassette tape. You can read a novel on tape, learn to speak Spanish, or figure out how grow roses. Popular books like Harry Potter, The Da Vinci Code, the new Star Wars Revenge of the Sith, and the Oprah reading list are all available as books on tape.
